A certified mermaid is one that holds the global PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Mermaid Instructor Certification™. One that is vetted, proficient in first-aid/CPR and mermaiding skills that make it a safe underwater art type of diving, while providing insurance coverage. Only certified PADI Mermaids are allowed to teach the curriculum.
Our events can take place any day.
We are located in Canada (Montreal area) and in Mexico (Puerto Vallarta area). We offer our services within 50km around the location of the siren. If available, the mermaid could travel for certain events. Transport costs then apply. Please send us your request and we will try to accommodate.
Spots do fill up closer to the date so if you're thinking about booking, please do. Events must ideally be booked at least 1 week in advance. We recommend booking at least 4 weeks in advance for larger groups.
You can pay online upon booking. Please note, all gigs must be booked in advance. We cannot accept walk-in reservations on the day of.
For parties, we can host groups as small as 2, and if you're really popular, we can accommodate up to 30 of your family and friends! For lessons, please note that we can only offer individual classes at the moment, even if family and friends can join in to watch.

Wear a comfortable bathing suit that allows you to move freely
We supply the mermaid costume for our lessons to transform from two legs to a tail ready to dive. We recommend bringing a wetsuit, underwater camera, towel, a diving mask and snorkel, flip-flops, etc.
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own fabric mermaid tails to the class. There is no discount if you bring your own tail. We don't recommend swimming with silicone tails unless you are a Mermaid Instructor as they are much heavier and require a 1 on 1 supervision.

Yes. For classes, all participants must be comfortable in the water and be able to swim as a human at least 25 meters, tread water for 1 minute, and float on your front and back without assistance or swim aids before swimming in a mermaid tail. Please refer to the courses' descriptions as some more requirements are mandatory for more advanced levels.
Swimming in a tail is harder than swimming without one because your legs are literally strapped together. If you cannot do the minimum swimming listed above, we recommend taking regular swimming lessons until you're able to do it. We can also provide regular swim trainings.
Kids that are not good swimmers must wear floaters during our water events.
We require a minimum swimming ability of at least 25 meters and 1 minute of treading water unassisted without swim aids before diving in with tails.
When wearing a mermaid tail, always ensure you swim with a buddy. Kids should always be supervised by an adult.
Friends and family are welcome to watch the class and take photos at no additional cost.
All mermaids, mermen, merfolks, and merpeople are welcome, from any shape, size and colour! We have a monofin that fits up to men’s shoe size 11 (ladies 13).
You are welcome as long as you credit and link MerMagia for each image you use. You may not use the photos for commercial use (to sell your own product), social media posts unaccompanied by an article, or in any way to disparage MerMagia or any other mermaids.
